Psalm 50:1

'The Mighty One, God, the Lord, speaks and summons the earth from the rising of the sun to where it sets.'

We clearly see that the people and the nations of this world do not pay any respect and honour to God. They go their own way and give no heed to God's Word or his will.

The Scriptures continually remind us that he is Lord of all the earth - from the east to the west. Yet there will be a time when God will summon the whole earth to answer to him - the warnings are clear. God will be given the homage he is due:

'At the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, the the glory of God the Father.' (Phil 2:10,11)

Psalm 50 continues: 'Our God comes and will not be silent; a fire devours before him, and around him a tempest rages. He summons the heavens above, and the earth, that he may judge his people.' (v3,4)

'Consider this, you who forget God, or I will tear you to pieces, with no one to rescue you.' (v22)

We might welcome God's judgement of the nations, but is a sobering thought that he will also judge every person for their response to the living God, and in particular to his Son.

Peter spoke on the day of Pentecost (Acts 2:23) 'This man was handed over to you by God's deliberate plan and foreknowledge; and you, with the help of wicked men put him to death by nailing him to the cross.'

(38) 'Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins.'

We like to wish people well on specific occasions. Many years ago these comments were based in Christianity. Good bye was really 'God be with you'.

When we introduce God into the sentiment we are really offering a prayer that God will bless the person we are praying for. 'May God bless you' carries far more purpose and desire than a simple 'Have a nice day.'

The Bible tells us that 'The prayer of a righteous an is powerful and effective' (James 5:16). That means our good wishes for someone, if actually based on a prayer for them, is of far greater value than a casual greeting.

So let's remember to pray for all those we have cause to greet or pass on wishes to; and why not tell them we are praying for them!

What does the Bible have to say about treating 'Beggars'? Well have a listen in our current series 'The Kingdom of Heaven' to hear what was spoken about this very subject by Steve Adams on Sunday 8th December by clicking here.

Wise Sayings

After a very long and boring sermon the congregation filed out of the church saying nothing to the preacher. Towards the end of the line was a thoughtful person who always commented on the sermons. "Today your sermon reminded me of the peace and love of God!" The preacher was thrilled. "No-one has ever said anything like that about my preaching before. Tell me why."
"Well - it reminded me of the Peace of God because it passed all understanding and the Love of God because it endured forever!"
